The Tallgeese EW RG 1/144 #28 recreates the Endless Waltz version of the legendary OZ-00MS Tallgeese in impressive 1/144 scale detail. Bandai developed the kit with particular attention to the internal structure of its huge Super Verniers, while the Dober Gun receives its own mechanical gimmicks including cartridge exchange and blowback movement.

Originally released on 28 April 2018, the Tallgeese became the 28th entry in Bandai’s Real Grade line.

OZ-00MS Tallgeese

The OZ-00MS Tallgeese is one of the most important Mobile Suit designs from the world of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Developed before the mass-produced machines that followed, the Tallgeese represents an early attempt to create an extraordinarily high-performance Mobile Suit.

Its influence can be seen throughout the development of later After Colony machines, but visually the Tallgeese remains completely distinctive.

The tall Roman-inspired helmet crest, predominantly white armour, large circular shield and enormous rear thrusters give it an appearance somewhere between a futuristic knight and a machine that has been fitted with considerably more propulsion than is probably sensible.

And that’s exactly why we love it.

The Tallgeese EW Design

This Real Grade represents the EW – Endless Waltz version of the Tallgeese.

The overall appearance retains everything that makes the Tallgeese instantly recognisable while incorporating the detailing and colour arrangement associated with the EW presentation.

Bandai specifically identifies the kit as the New Mobile Report Gundam Wing Endless Waltz version of Tallgeese.

At 1/144 scale, the combination of white armour, dark internal structure and carefully separated coloured components gives the finished model considerably more visual depth than its apparently simple colour scheme might suggest.

Real Grade #28

The Tallgeese holds the distinction of being RG #28.

Real Grade kits combine compact 1/144 scale with dense mechanical detail, extensive articulation, sophisticated part separation and engineering more commonly associated with larger model kits.

For the Tallgeese, Bandai paid particular attention to making its complex mechanical construction convincing at this smaller scale.

Bandai describes the original machine as having a setting height of 17.4 metres, and the RG kit uses insert-moulding technology to reproduce its complicated construction while maintaining buildability.

The result is a relatively compact finished model packed with mechanical detail.

Zechs Merquise’s Legendary Mobile Suit

The Tallgeese is famously associated with Zechs Merquise, one of the central characters of Gundam Wing.

The machine’s extreme performance makes it a formidable weapon, but controlling that performance places tremendous demands on its pilot.

That relationship between Zechs and the Tallgeese helps make the machine far more memorable than simply being another antagonist Mobile Suit.

Put it alongside Wing Gundam and you’ve immediately got the foundations for one of the classic rival displays from Gundam Wing.

Massive Super Verniers

The Super Verniers are among the defining features of the Tallgeese.

Mounted behind the shoulders, these enormous propulsion units dominate the rear silhouette of the machine.

For the Real Grade kit, Bandai didn’t simply treat them as hollow boxes attached to the back.

The internal construction of the Super Verniers was specifically reconsidered for the RG release, creating a detailed mechanical structure designed to make their operation more convincing at 1/144 scale.

The result is one of the most interesting parts of the entire build.

Mechanical Vernier Deployment

The Super Verniers aren’t just there to look impressive.

Their construction incorporates moving components that allow the thruster assemblies to be deployed and adjusted, dramatically changing the appearance of the finished model.

With the verniers opened, the Tallgeese takes on the appearance of a machine preparing for rapid acceleration.

Close them and the silhouette becomes much cleaner.

Either way, they’re enormous.

Which seems appropriate for a Mobile Suit whose solution to most mobility problems appears to have been:

Add more thrust.

Dober Gun

The Tallgeese’s signature ranged weapon is the enormous Dober Gun.

Mounted alongside the Mobile Suit rather than being carried like a conventional rifle, the weapon contributes heavily to the Tallgeese’s distinctive appearance.

Bandai gave the RG Dober Gun more than just surface detail.

It incorporates a cartridge exchange gimmick and blowback mechanism, while the movable grip helps the weapon remain usable across different poses.

It’s exactly the sort of small mechanical feature that makes the Real Grade build particularly satisfying.

Circular Shield

The Tallgeese also carries its characteristic circular shield.

The shield reinforces the almost knight-like appearance of the Mobile Suit and creates a striking visual contrast against the long Dober Gun on the opposite side.

Its clean circular shape is particularly effective against the angular mechanical detailing of the RG body.

Equip the Tallgeese with both shield and Dober Gun and you’ve got the classic configuration immediately.

Twin Beam Sabers

For close-range combat, Bandai includes two Beam Sabers.

These give the model a very different appearance from the long-range Dober Gun configuration and allow the Tallgeese to be posed in more aggressive melee stances.

The Beam Saber equipment is also useful when you want to show off more of the body without the enormous Dober Gun dominating the pose.

Although, to be fair, enormous weapons dominating a pose is rarely something we’re going to complain about.

Stable Articulation

With large equipment attached to both the shoulders and back, keeping the Tallgeese stable could easily have become a challenge.

Bandai addressed this through the use of locking mechanisms throughout the kit, helping the model maintain stable poses despite its equipment.

This becomes particularly important when positioning the Dober Gun and adjusting the Super Verniers.

The articulated construction also allows the Tallgeese to achieve the dynamic stances expected from a modern RG release.

Dense Mechanical Detail

One of the best things about the RG Tallgeese EW is the contrast between its clean exterior armour and the mechanical detail underneath.

At first glance, the Tallgeese appears relatively simple.

White armour.

Blue torso.

Red highlights.

Then you start building it.

The frame, verniers, weapon mechanisms and smaller armour components reveal just how much detail Bandai has packed into the model.

Panel lining and careful application of the included Realistic Decals can bring even more of that detail to the surface.

Realistic Decals Included

Bandai includes a sheet of Realistic Decals with the RG Tallgeese EW.

These markings add smaller mechanical and caution details across the armour, helping emphasise the Real Grade aesthetic.

You can keep the finished model relatively clean for an anime-inspired appearance or apply the full marking set for a much more mechanically detailed presentation.

Both approaches work extremely well with the Tallgeese’s predominantly white armour.

Excellent for Panel Lining & Custom Detailing

The Tallgeese EW RG 1/144 is also an excellent model for anyone who enjoys adding a little extra finishing work.

The white armour provides a great surface for subtle panel lining.

Mechanical areas can be picked out with metallic paints.

The Super Verniers offer plenty of opportunities for additional thruster detailing.

The Dober Gun can be weathered separately from the main body.

And the clean armour design provides an excellent foundation for additional decals or custom colour schemes.

You can keep it pristine and ceremonial.

Or make it look like Zechs has been pushing the machine to its limits.

Display with Wing Gundam

For Gundam Wing collectors, the Tallgeese is a natural companion to the various Wing Gundam releases.

Displaying Zechs Merquise’s Tallgeese opposite Wing Gundam immediately creates one of the most recognisable rivalries from the series.

The Real Grade scale makes this particularly easy, with several Gundam Wing machines available in compatible 1/144 RG form.

And if your collection eventually grows to include Tallgeese II and Tallgeese III?

That’s completely understandable.
