The Gundam of Chang Wufei

Shenlong Gundam is one of the five Gundams sent to Earth as part of Operation Meteor and immediately stands apart from its fellow Gundams thanks to its Chinese-inspired design and close-combat weaponry.

With its striking green, white, red and yellow colour scheme, asymmetric Dragon Hang-equipped arm and Beam Glaive, Shenlong has one of the most distinctive silhouettes of the original five Gundam Wing machines.

And if you’re collecting the HGAC Operation Meteor Gundams, Wufei was never going to stay missing forever.

Extendable Dragon Hang

The highlight is naturally the Dragon Hang fitted to Shenlong’s right arm.

Bandai has engineered the HG version so the Dragon Hang can be displayed in both stored and deployed configurations. Two additional extension joints are included, allowing the arm to be lengthened for much more dramatic attacking poses.

It’s the feature that defines Shenlong, and Bandai has made sure you can actually do something interesting with it.

And point it directly at whichever Gundam has annoyed Wufei this week.

Beam Glaive

Shenlong’s other signature close-combat weapon, the Beam Glaive, is included in the kit.

Its long shaft and beam blade provide a completely different posing style from the conventional Beam Sabers carried by many Gundams.

Combined with Shenlong’s improved upper-body articulation, the Beam Glaive can be used for wide two-handed combat stances and dynamic martial-arts-inspired poses.

Shenlong Shield

The distinctive Shenlong Shield is also included, completing the Mobile Suit’s familiar equipment loadout.

Its compact design and bold colour separation work particularly well alongside the much larger Dragon Hang and Beam Glaive.

Excellent Upper-Body Articulation

Bandai has given this HGAC release some particularly useful articulation.

An internal movable axis in the chest allows the torso to bend sideways as well as forwards and backwards. When the torso bends forwards or backwards, the cockpit block moves vertically to accommodate the motion.

This is especially useful on a Gundam like Shenlong.

It’s a machine that should look aggressive and mobile rather than standing perfectly upright holding its weapon.

Sliding Shoulder Mechanism

The shoulder joints also feature a sliding mechanism designed to increase their range of movement.

Combined with the torso articulation, this gives the arms considerably more freedom when creating Beam Glaive attacks or extended Dragon Hang poses.

For a close-combat Gundam, that’s exactly where you want the articulation.

Multiple Hand Options

Bandai includes three types of left and right hand parts, providing additional options when setting up your display.

Whether Shenlong is carrying its weapon, preparing for combat or simply standing alongside the other Operation Meteor Gundams, the additional hands help give the finished model more personality.

Modern HGAC Engineering

Released in September 2022, this HGAC Shenlong is a modern interpretation of the original television-series design rather than relying on the considerably older 1990s Gundam Wing tooling.

The proportions retain Shenlong’s classic appearance while taking advantage of modern Bandai engineering.
