When the Satellite Cannon was no longer an option, Gundam X came back with a completely different approach — more conventional firepower, improved mobility and one of the most distinctive shields in the After War timeline.
The HGAW 1/144 GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider #118 recreates the rebuilt Gundam X from After War Gundam X, piloted by Garrod Ran.
Released on 18 December 2010, the kit takes the familiar Gundam X design and equips it with the distinctive Divider, Beam Machine Gun and Hyper Bazooka, creating a heavily armed version that looks considerably different from the original Satellite Cannon-equipped machine. Bandai’s official specification confirms nine moulded runners plus foil stickers and instructions.
GX-9900-DV Gundam X Divider
The Gundam X Divider isn’t simply another equipment variation.
It’s the result of the original GX-9900 Gundam X being rebuilt and modified, giving Garrod Ran a machine capable of continuing to fight without depending on the devastating Satellite Cannon.
The enormous reflector panels and Satellite Cannon that dominate the original Gundam X disappear.
In their place comes the Divider.
The result is a more compact, combat-focused Gundam with an arsenal suited to conventional Mobile Suit engagements.
From After War Gundam X
The Gundam X Divider appears in After War Gundam X, one of the most distinctive alternative-universe Gundam series of the 1990s.
Set after the catastrophic 7th Space War, the series follows Garrod Ran, Tiffa Adill and the crew of the Freeden through a devastated Earth filled with surviving Mobile Suits, scavengers and competing military factions.
The original Gundam X is one of the series’ most recognisable designs.
The Divider takes that design in a completely different direction.
Piloted by Garrod Ran
The Gundam X Divider continues to be piloted by Garrod Ran.
Garrod’s unconventional fighting style suits the rebuilt machine particularly well.
Rather than relying on a single overwhelming superweapon, the Divider gives him several weapons and considerably more flexibility during ordinary Mobile Suit combat.
It’s less:
“I’ll destroy everything with the Satellite Cannon.”
And more:
“I’ve brought enough weapons that I probably won’t need to.”
The Divider
The defining piece of equipment is, unsurprisingly, the Divider.
At first glance it looks like an unusually elaborate shield.
And it can absolutely function as one.
But that isn’t where things stop.
The Divider incorporates multiple beam emitters and can transform from its shield configuration into the machine’s distinctive Harmonica Cannon firing mode. Bandai specifically recreated this shield-to-Harmonica Cannon transformation as one of the major gimmicks of the HGAW kit.
Harmonica Cannon
Transform the Divider and the shield becomes the Harmonica Cannon.
The multiple beam emitters across the front give the weapon its instantly recognisable appearance and provide Gundam X Divider with substantial ranged firepower without resorting to the original Satellite Cannon.
It’s also one of those gloriously Gundam weapon names.
Beam Rifle?
Perfectly normal.
Hyper Bazooka?
Fair enough.
Harmonica Cannon?
Now we’re talking.
Divider as a Shield
When the Harmonica Cannon isn’t required, the same equipment can return to its shield configuration.
That dual-purpose design is a major part of what makes the Gundam X Divider so interesting.
Instead of simply hanging another enormous weapon from the backpack, the Divider combines offensive and defensive capability into one visually distinctive piece of equipment.
Bandai’s transformation gimmick lets you make full use of both configurations on the finished model.
Beam Machine Gun
The Gundam X Divider also comes armed with a Beam Machine Gun.
This gives Garrod a much more practical handheld ranged weapon for normal Mobile Suit engagements.
Bandai specifically added the Beam Machine Gun to the Divider release alongside its other new equipment.
Equip the Beam Machine Gun with the Divider held as a shield and you’ve got a great conventional combat configuration.
Then transform the Divider when you want considerably more firepower.
Hyper Bazooka
For something heavier, Bandai also includes the Hyper Bazooka.
It’s another accessory that reinforces how differently the Divider fights compared with the original Gundam X.
The Satellite Cannon was an extraordinary strategic weapon.
The Hyper Bazooka is much more straightforward.
Point it at the enemy.
Pull the trigger.
Problem hopefully solved.
Beam Sabers
The Gundam X Divider retains close-combat capability through its Beam Saber equipment.
That means you’re not restricted to ranged poses despite the considerable amount of firepower included with the kit.
Combine the saber with the Divider shield and you can create some excellent close-combat stances that show off the machine’s more conventional battlefield role.
Completely Different Silhouette
One of the best reasons to own the Divider alongside the standard Gundam X is how different the two machines look.
The original HGAW Gundam X is dominated by its Satellite Cannon and deployable energy-reflector panels. Bandai’s standard Gundam X kit reproduces that complete deployment system, including holographic detailing across the reflector surfaces.
The Divider removes that huge asymmetric Satellite Cannon silhouette.
Instead, the machine appears more balanced and compact, with the Divider becoming its dominant visual feature.
Put both versions side by side and the evolution of the design is immediately obvious.
Classic Gundam X Colour Scheme
Despite the substantial equipment changes, the core Mobile Suit remains instantly recognisable as Gundam X.
White dominates the armour.
Blue covers the torso and other key areas.
Red provides strong contrasting sections.
Yellow highlights complete the classic Gundam colour palette.
The result is a machine that still looks unmistakably like a hero Gundam even with its more practical battlefield equipment.
HGAW – High Grade After War
The Gundam X Divider belongs to Bandai’s HGAW – High Grade After War range.
The line brought Gundam X Mobile Suits into the broader modern HG format, with the original Gundam X arriving earlier in April 2010.
That makes the Divider a classic 2010-era HG.
It’s relatively straightforward to build compared with the latest generations of Real Grade kits, while still offering plenty of articulation and equipment options.
Designed for Action Poses
The underlying Gundam X design was engineered with a broad range of articulation, with Bandai specifically promoting the original HGAW model’s ability to recreate varied action poses.
That’s particularly useful with the Divider.
You’ve got several completely different ways to display the machine depending on the equipment selected.
Beam Machine Gun and shield.
Hyper Bazooka.
Beam Saber.
Or Divider transformed into Harmonica Cannon mode.
One model can produce a surprisingly varied selection of displays.
Nine Runners
Bandai’s official specification lists nine moulded runners for the Gundam X Divider, along with a foil sticker sheet and assembly instructions.
As you’d expect from a High Grade kit, construction is snap-fit and designed to reproduce the major colours through separate moulded components, with stickers handling some of the smaller colour details.
Painting isn’t required, but there’s plenty of scope for builders who want to take the finished model further.
Excellent Customisation Potential
The Gundam X Divider is a particularly good candidate for additional detailing because of the mechanical complexity of its signature weapon.
Some careful work on the Divider can really make the Harmonica Cannon emitters stand out.
Panel line the armour.
Add metallic detailing to the weapon systems.
Pick out the thrusters.
Detail the Beam Machine Gun and Hyper Bazooka.
Add subtle weathering around the feet and lower legs.
Or give the whole machine a battered post-war finish.
That last option works particularly well with the After War Gundam X setting.
Display It with the Original Gundam X
For Gundam X fans, displaying the Gundam X and Gundam X Divider together makes for a fantastic comparison.
The original HGAW GX-9900 arrived in April 2010 with its Satellite Cannon, deployable reflector panels and holographic reflector stickers. The Divider followed in December with its completely different weapon system.
One is built around overwhelming Satellite Cannon firepower.
The other is equipped for sustained conventional combat.
Same Gundam.
Very different personalities.
