Bring the reluctant pilot of Evangelion Unit-01 to your collection with the Nendoroid Shinji Ikari: Plugsuit Ver., based on his appearance in Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.
Recreated in Good Smile Company’s unmistakable Nendoroid style, Shinji appears wearing his familiar NERV Plugsuit and comes with interchangeable expressions and optional parts for recreating scenes from the Rebuild of Evangelion films. From nervous everyday Shinji to determined EVA pilot, this compact figure captures one of anime’s most recognisable protagonists with plenty of personality.
Shinji Ikari – Pilot of EVA Unit-01
Shinji Ikari is the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-01 and the central character of the Evangelion story.
Summoned to Tokyo-3 by his estranged father, Gendo Ikari, Shinji suddenly finds himself expected to pilot a gigantic Evangelion and fight the mysterious beings known as Angels.
It’s not exactly the easiest first day at a new job.
Throughout Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Shinji’s relationships with Rei, Asuka, Misato and the other people around him continue to develop while the battles against the Angels become increasingly dangerous.
Classic NERV Plugsuit
This version of Shinji is presented wearing his distinctive Plugsuit.
The white, black and blue design is instantly recognisable to Evangelion fans and provides a great contrast with the red of Asuka and white of Rei when the three pilots are displayed together.
Good Smile Company recreates the mechanical lines and colour separation of the suit while adapting everything to the deliberately exaggerated proportions of a Nendoroid.
The result is unmistakably Shinji.
Just considerably smaller.
Multiple Face Plates
Shinji isn’t exactly known for having one emotional state.
Interchangeable face plates allow you to change his expression and create different scenes from the film.
Use the alternative expressions to recreate:
- Nervous Shinji
- Serious EVA pilot poses
- Emotional scenes
- Character interactions
- More determined moments
Combine the different expressions with interchangeable body parts and accessories and you can completely change the mood of the display.
EVA Unit-01 Pilot
Shinji is inseparable from Evangelion Unit-01.
The purple-and-green EVA becomes one of the most important weapons available to NERV and is at the centre of many of the Rebuild films’ most spectacular battles.
Displaying Nendoroid Shinji alongside an EVA Unit-01 model kit or figure creates a brilliant pilot-and-Evangelion display.
Put him next to Asuka and Rei and you’ve got the foundations of a complete NERV pilot lineup.
Entry Plug Display
One of the most enjoyable ways to display an Evangelion pilot is exactly where they’re supposed to be:
inside an Entry Plug.
The optional components allow Shinji to be presented in a cockpit-style configuration, creating a miniature recreation of the environment from which he controls EVA Unit-01.
It’s a particularly effective alternative to simply displaying the Nendoroid standing on its regular base.
Interchangeable Parts
Like other figures in the Nendoroid range, Shinji includes optional components designed to expand his posing possibilities.
Swap the:
- Face
- Arms
- Hands
- Body position
- Accessories
to create different scenes and expressions.
The modular design also makes it easy to change your display whenever you fancy something different.
Pre-Painted and Ready to Display
The Nendoroid Shinji Ikari: Plugsuit Ver. is a pre-painted collectible figure rather than a traditional model kit.
There’s no need for:
- Glue
- Painting
- Panel lining
- Decals
- Model-building tools
Simply attach your chosen parts, select an expression and put Shinji on display.
It’s an easy way for Evangelion fans to expand their collection without adding another full model-building project to the backlog.
Recreate Evangelion: 2.0
The Rebuild films gave Shinji some of his most dramatic moments.
Pair him with other characters and Evangelion units to recreate scenes inspired by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance.
Potential displays include:
- Shinji with EVA Unit-01
- Shinji and Rei
- Shinji and Asuka
- The three EVA pilots together
- NERV character displays
- Entry Plug scenes
Because Nendoroids share a broadly consistent scale and design language, group displays work particularly well.
Complete the Evangelion Pilot Trio
Shinji really belongs alongside his fellow EVA pilots.
Display him with:
- Rei Ayanami – Plugsuit Ver.
- Asuka Shikinami Langley – Plugsuit Ver.
- Asuka Shikinami Langley – Test Suit Ver.
Together, Shinji, Rei and Asuka create an instantly recognisable Evangelion character display.
Add Mari Illustrious Makinami and Kaworu Nagisa and the collection can quickly start taking over the shelf.
Which is probably how Nendoroids work.
You buy one.
Then somehow there are twelve.
Small Figure, Big Evangelion Personality
Shinji’s character is considerably quieter than Asuka’s, but that actually makes the exaggerated Nendoroid format particularly entertaining.
The interchangeable expressions can emphasise his nervousness, uncertainty and occasional determination, while the Plugsuit immediately identifies him as the pilot of Unit-01.
It’s a fun interpretation of a character who spends quite a lot of Evangelion having a decidedly un-fun time.
