Evangelion Test Type-01
Evangelion Test Type-01, better known simply as EVA Unit-01, is the Evangelion most closely associated with Shinji Ikari and the machine at the centre of the Evangelion story.
Its purple armour, fluorescent green highlights, horned head and hunched humanoid proportions have become instantly recognisable even outside anime fandom.
Unit-01 has appeared in countless model kits, statues and action figures over the years.
BRICKROID takes a rather different approach.

Good Smile describes BRICKROID as a collectible robot series built around the idea of being both “cool and fun.”
Every machine is adapted into a consistent miniature design format, allowing robots from completely different franchises to be displayed together.
Despite standing only around 5cm tall, the figures retain movable heads, arms and legs along with character-specific weapons and accessories.
It’s essentially an entire mecha collection designed to fit on your desk.

Yes, this Evangelion is only about 50mm tall.
Five centimetres.
Considering the machine it’s based on is an enormous biomechanical weapon, that’s quite a reduction.
But the deliberately exaggerated proportions allow the important parts of Unit-01’s design to remain immediately recognisable.

Pre-Painted and Ready to Display
BRICKROID Unit-01 is a painted ABS articulated figure, not a traditional model kit.
That means:

Spear of Cassius
The standout accessory is the enormous Spear of Cassius.
Good Smile includes the weapon with Unit-01 and has designed the figure’s hand parts so it can actually be equipped.
The spear looks absolutely enormous next to the tiny BRICKROID body, which only makes the finished display more entertaining.
It’s an especially good option if you’re creating a Rebuild-focused Evangelion collection.
Pallet Gun
For something a little more conventional, Unit-01 also comes with a Pallet Gun.
The weapon provides a classic Evangelion military appearance and gives you another option for ranged-combat poses.
Equip the Pallet Gun, angle the arms and you’ve got a tiny EVA-01 ready to deal with an Angel.
Or whatever else happens to be occupying your desk.
Progressive Knife
Naturally, the Progressive Knife is here too.
The compact blade is one of Evangelion’s most recognisable close-combat weapons and provides another completely different way to pose Unit-01.

Articulated Head, Arms and Legs
This isn’t simply a fixed miniature statue.
Good Smile has incorporated articulation into the head, arms and legs, allowing you to adjust Unit-01’s stance and weapon position.
The articulation is deliberately straightforward, fitting the small size and chunky design of the BRICKROID range.
It’s the sort of collectible you’re encouraged to pick up and reposition rather than carefully placing it in one pose and never touching it again.
Block-Style Display Base
A convex block base is included with Unit-01.
Connection holes underneath the figure’s feet attach to 5mm-diameter studs, securing the Evangelion to the supplied base.
It’s a simple feature that makes the tiny figure much easier to arrange as part of a larger collection.
Compatible with Generic Building Blocks
The 5mm connection system isn’t limited to the included stand.
Good Smile states that the holes underneath the feet can also connect to generic brick toys using studs of the same dimensions.
That gives creative collectors plenty of possibilities.
