Bring one of the wildest incarnations of Evangelion Unit-02 to your collection in miniature form with the BRICKROID Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha from Good Smile Company.

Based on the heavily modified New Unit-02α from Rebuild of Evangelion, this figure takes the machine’s aggressive, asymmetrical appearance and transforms it into Good Smile’s compact BRICKROID format. At only around 50mm tall, it’s tiny – but between the oversized mechanical arm, enormous weapon and unmistakable red EVA armour, it certainly doesn’t look boring.

Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha

The Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha, commonly referred to as New Unit-02α, is a dramatically modified form of EVA Unit-02.

Rather than the relatively clean humanoid appearance normally associated with Unit-02, New Unit-02α looks like a machine that’s been rebuilt with whatever equipment could be made available.

The result is deliberately unconventional.

Its combination of recognisable red Evangelion armour and enormous mechanical components creates one of the most unusual versions of Unit-02 seen in the Rebuild series.

Welcome to BRICKROID

BRICKROID is Good Smile Company’s collectible robot range built around one simple idea:

Take famous robots from different franchises and reinterpret them using the same compact, chunky design format.

The figures stand approximately 5cm tall and come as pre-painted completed collectibles rather than model kits. Despite their tiny size, the neck, arms and legs are articulated.

That makes BRICKROID something between a miniature action figure, desk toy and robot collectible.

Only Around 50mm Tall

Yes.

50mm.

That’s approximately five centimetres.

This is a seriously small Evangelion.

But the exaggerated BRICKROID proportions work particularly well with New Unit-02α. Its distinctive armour and enormous equipment are condensed into a chunky little robot that remains immediately recognisable.

The small size also means you can build an entire BRICKROID collection without needing to buy another display cabinet.

Probably.

Fully Pre-Painted

Unlike a MODEROID or Gunpla kit, this BRICKROID is supplied as a pre-painted completed figure made from ABS plastic.

There’s no need for:

  • Cutting parts from runners
  • Painting
  • Glue
  • Panel lining
  • Decals
  • Model-building tools

Take it out of the packaging, equip the weapon and put it on display.

It’s ideal if you like mecha but your model-kit backlog has already become structurally dangerous.

Articulated Neck, Arms and Legs

Don’t let the tiny size fool you.

Good Smile has incorporated articulation into the neck, arms and legs, allowing you to change the figure’s stance rather than being restricted to a single fixed pose.

The movement is deliberately straightforward, but that’s part of the appeal of BRICKROID.

These aren’t trying to be incredibly complicated miniature action figures.

They’re designed to be fun little robots you can actually pick up, move around and rearrange.

Weapon Included

New Unit-02α also includes its distinctive weapon equipment, which can be held by the figure.

The oversized weapon works particularly well with the deliberately exaggerated BRICKROID proportions.

The result is a tiny Evangelion carrying a weapon that looks almost comically enormous compared with the body.

Which, considering Evangelion, isn’t actually that unusual.

Block-Style Display Base

Each BRICKROID includes a dedicated convex block display base.

The underside of the figure’s feet contains connection holes compatible with 5mm-diameter studs, allowing New Unit-02α to attach securely to the supplied base.

This makes the figure much easier to arrange as part of a larger display.

Compatible with Generic Building Blocks

Here’s where BRICKROID gets particularly interesting.

Good Smile states that the connection holes in the feet can also be attached to generic block toys using compatible 5mm studs.

That opens up considerably more possibilities.

You could create:

  • Custom Evangelion display platforms
  • NERV-style environments
  • Miniature battle scenes
  • Multi-level BRICKROID displays
  • Custom block-built backgrounds
  • Larger robot collections

It’s a clever little feature that gives such a small collectible considerably more play value.

Part of the First BRICKROID Wave

New Unit-02α has a particularly interesting place in the history of the range because it was part of the first wave of BRICKROID releases.

Good Smile launched the series with three machines from Rebuild of Evangelion:

Evangelion Unit-01

Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha

Evangelion Unit-13

All three were released in May 2026.

That makes this one of the original figures that introduced the entire BRICKROID concept.

Build the Evangelion BRICKROID Trio

New Unit-02α really comes into its own when displayed alongside the other two Evangelion releases.

Put all three together and you get three very different EVA designs interpreted through exactly the same BRICKROID proportions.

Unit-01 gives you the classic purple-and-green Evangelion appearance.

Unit-13 brings another major Rebuild design.

And New Unit-02α looks like somebody rebuilt an Evangelion after being given unrestricted access to a military scrapyard.

It’s probably the strangest of the three.

Which also makes it arguably the most fun.

Sculpted and Designed by -moino-

Both the original sculpt and the BRICKROID deformation design were created by -moino-.

That’s important because the entire BRICKROID range is based around maintaining a consistent visual language even when the original robots come from completely different franchises.

New Unit-02α therefore needs to look simultaneously like an Evangelion and like every other BRICKROID.

The chunky proportions achieve exactly that.

Small Robot, Big Personality

New Unit-02α is already an extreme design.

Shrinking it down and exaggerating the proportions makes it even more entertaining.

The mechanical components become enormous.

The body becomes tiny.

The weapon looks ridiculous.

And somehow the whole thing still looks unmistakably like Evangelion.

That’s really what BRICKROID is about.

Why Add BRICKROID Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha to Your Collection?

Because sometimes you don’t need another enormous Evangelion model.

Sometimes you need a 5cm-tall heavily armed mechanical lunatic sitting on your desk.

The BRICKROID Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha takes one of the strangest Unit-02 designs from the Rebuild series and compresses it into an incredibly compact collectible without losing the features that make the machine so recognisable.

It’s pre-painted, articulated and comes with its weapon and display base straight out of the box. The block-compatible foot connections also give you the option of creating your own custom environments rather than simply lining the figures up on a shelf.

Better still, New Unit-02α was one of the original three Evangelion releases that launched BRICKROID in May 2026, making it an obvious addition for anyone planning to collect the range from the beginning.

For Evangelion collectors, mecha fans or anyone who likes their giant robots considerably less giant, this is a brilliantly strange little addition to the collection.

Huge weapon. Tiny Evangelion. Maximum attitude. BRICKROID Evangelion Production Model-New 02 Alpha takes one of Rebuild’s wildest EVA designs and squeezes it into just 50mm of chunky mechanical chaos.
