Expand your forces, add new tactical options and bring even more Mobile Suits onto the Gundam Assemble battlefield.

The Gundam Assemble Expansion Pack 04 (EX04) expands Bandai’s Gundam miniature tabletop battle game with another selection of approximately 50mm unpainted Gundam Assemble miniatures to build, customise, paint and deploy.

Designed to work with the wider Gundam Assemble game system, EX04 is ideal for players looking to increase their available forces, experiment with different unit combinations and add more variety to their battles.

What is Gundam Assemble?

Gundam Assemble combines two sides of the Gundam hobby that have traditionally remained separate: building models and playing tabletop games.

The system uses compact Gunpla-style miniatures representing Mobile Suits and other machines from across the Gundam universe.

You build them.

You can paint and customise them.

Then, instead of putting them straight into the display cabinet, you take them onto the battlefield.

Individual units have their own game characteristics and abilities, allowing players to construct forces and fight tactical battles using their favourite Gundam machines.

Expand Your Gundam Assemble Collection

As the name suggests, Expansion Pack 04 is designed to add further units to an existing Gundam Assemble collection.

That makes expansion packs particularly useful once you’ve started experimenting with the game.

Rather than being restricted to the same group of units every time, additional miniatures give you more options when constructing forces and approaching different scenarios.

Change your units.

Change your tactics.

Change your army.

Then blame the dice when the carefully constructed plan lasts approximately thirty seconds.

Build Before You Battle

Gundam Assemble isn’t simply a game containing pre-painted gaming pieces.

The miniatures are designed around the Gunpla experience, meaning assembly and customisation are part of the hobby.

For existing Gunpla builders, the basic idea will feel immediately familiar.

Build your miniature.

Clean up the gates.

Decide whether you’re keeping the standard appearance or creating something completely different.

Then prepare it for battle.

It brings some of the satisfaction of completing a Gunpla build into a much smaller tabletop format.

Approximately 50mm Gundam Miniatures

Gundam Assemble uses miniatures around 50mm in size, although exact dimensions naturally vary according to the individual machine.

That makes them considerably smaller than conventional HG Gunpla while still providing enough surface detail for painting and customisation.

The compact size is also important for the game itself.

Multiple Mobile Suits can fight across a tabletop battlefield without requiring the amount of space that would be needed if everyone started turning up with 1/144 HG kits.

Although we’d quite like to see someone try.

Paint Your Units

The miniatures are supplied unpainted, giving builders the freedom to decide exactly how their forces should look.

You can recreate the official anime colours.

Add additional markings.

Apply panel lining.

Create weathering.

Add battle damage.

Paint metallic weapon details.

Or completely ignore canon and create your own custom squadron.

For experienced miniature painters, Gundam Assemble provides an interesting opportunity to apply traditional tabletop painting techniques to familiar Gundam designs.

For Gunpla builders, it’s an introduction to working at a much smaller scale.

Create Your Own Mobile Suit Force

Expansion packs become particularly interesting when you start thinking beyond individual models.

Rather than treating every miniature as a standalone build, you can create a visually consistent force.

Matching markings.

Squadron numbers.

Commander units.

Custom colours.

Battlefield weathering.

You could create an entire group that looks as though it belongs to the same military unit rather than simply assembling a collection of unrelated Mobile Suits.

That’s where the modelling and gaming sides of Gundam Assemble really start working together.

More Units Mean More Tactical Options

Every additional Gundam Assemble unit potentially changes how you approach the tabletop game.

Different Mobile Suits bring different capabilities to the battlefield, encouraging players to experiment with force composition rather than simply selecting models based on appearance.

Of course, selecting your army entirely because you think the Mobile Suits look cool remains perfectly acceptable.

This is Gundam.

We’re not judging.

Mix with Other Gundam Assemble Releases

EX04 is designed to become part of the wider Gundam Assemble ecosystem.

Combine it with other Expansion Packs to increase your selection of available units, or use it alongside larger releases such as the Gundam Assemble Deluxe Sets.

The more units you collect, the more possibilities you have for creating different forces and match-ups.

And as additional Gundam series and Mobile Suits enter the game, the possibilities become even larger.

Recreate Gundam Battles

One of the obvious attractions of Gundam Assemble is recreating battles inspired by the anime.

Put familiar rivals against one another.

Build forces based around specific factions.

Recreate famous engagements.

Then see whether history repeats itself once the dice start rolling.

Or Completely Rewrite Gundam History

Of course, following established Gundam history is entirely optional.

Once you’ve got a growing selection of Gundam Assemble miniatures, you can create your own battles and scenarios.

Machines that never met on screen can finally fight one another.

Different units can be combined into forces that never existed.

And as the wider range expands, cross-series battles can create match-ups that would normally be impossible.

This is where Gundam Assemble has enormous potential as a collectible tabletop system.

You’re not simply collecting models.

You’re gradually creating a library of Mobile Suits you can actually use.

Ideal for Gunpla Builders

If you already build Gunpla, Gundam Assemble provides a different way to enjoy the hobby.

The basic skills transfer immediately.

Gate removal.

Detail painting.

Panel lining.

Decals and markings where appropriate.

Weathering.

Custom colour schemes.

But because you’re working with much smaller models, the experience is very different from building an HG, RG or MG.

You can create an entire group of machines rather than spending the same amount of time working on one large model.

Ideal for Tabletop Gamers

For existing miniature gamers, Gundam Assemble approaches things from the opposite direction.

You’re already familiar with building and painting forces.

You’re already familiar with thinking about unit selection and battlefield tactics.

Now you can do it with Mobile Suits.

For Gundam fans who have always liked the idea of miniature wargaming but never found a universe that grabbed them, this could be exactly the excuse required.

Display Them When You’re Not Playing

Naturally, Gundam Assemble miniatures don’t have to disappear into a gaming box between battles.

Once painted and detailed, they’re miniature Gundam display pieces in their own right.

Build a small display base.

Create a hangar.

Add battlefield terrain.

Display an entire faction together.

Or line them up beside your larger Gunpla collection to demonstrate just how much shelf space you’ve somehow managed to dedicate to Gundam.

Build, Paint, Play

That’s ultimately the appeal of Gundam Assemble.

Build.

You get the modelling experience.

Paint.

You get the customisation experience.

Play.

You actually get to use what you’ve built.

It’s a simple idea, but one that gives Gundam Assemble a very different appeal from conventional Gunpla.

Paint them accurately.

Create your own custom force.

Then put them onto the tabletop and see whether your beautifully planned strategy survives first contact with your opponent.
