Speed. Mobility. And a pair of enormous Ion Boosters.

Transform the legendary Liger Zero into its dedicated high-speed combat form with the HMM ZOIDS RZ-041 Liger Zero Jager 1/72 from Kotobukiya.

The Jager is one of the three famous Changing Armor System (CAS) configurations developed for Liger Zero, trading the heavy weapons of Panzer and close-combat blades of Schneider for one thing above everything else:

Speed.

Kotobukiya’s HMM treatment turns that concept into a substantial 320mm-long, 401–600-part model kit, complete with movable Large Ion Boosters, deployable wings and thrusters, a pilot figure and extensive markings.

RZ-041 Liger Zero

The RZ-041 Liger Zero is one of the most recognisable Zoids in the franchise and is particularly associated with Bit Cloud in ZOIDS: New Century /ZERO.

Its defining feature is the Changing Armor System.

Rather than permanently configuring the Zoid for a single battlefield role, specialised armour packages can be installed over the base Liger Zero frame.

Change the armour.

Change the machine.

The three most famous configurations are:

Jager – High-Speed Combat

Schneider – Close Combat

Panzer – Heavy Artillery

And if your preferred solution to a problem is simply getting there considerably faster than everyone else, Jager is the obvious choice.

Liger Zero Jager

The Jager Unit transforms Liger Zero into a specialised high-speed combat machine.

The standard white armour is replaced by Jager’s unmistakable navy-blue armour package, while enormous propulsion equipment dramatically changes the silhouette of the Zoid.

Kotobukiya describes the Jager as pushing Liger Zero’s natural agility to its limits.

It doesn’t need a mountain of missiles.

It doesn’t need seven blades sticking out of its head.

It just needs to be faster than whatever it’s fighting.

Changing Armor System

Kotobukiya’s HMM Liger Zero engineering recreates the CAS concept with removable armour, rather than simply moulding the Jager as one permanently configured model. The underlying Liger Zero was specifically designed around removable external armour.

That’s an important part of the appeal.

Underneath all that blue high-speed equipment is still Liger Zero.

It also opens up the possibility of exploring the other CAS configurations if you add compatible armour units to your collection.

Complete Liger Zero & Jager Unit

This particular complete RZ-041 Liger Zero Jager release includes both:

Liger Zero base model

and

Liger Zero Jager Unit

So you’re getting the complete Zoid required to build the Jager configuration, rather than only the separately available CAS armour package.

That’s worth checking when buying HMM Liger Zero products because Kotobukiya has also released individual CAS Units separately.

Two Massive Large Ion Boosters

The defining feature of Jager is the pair of enormous Large Ion Boosters mounted across its back.

These completely transform the silhouette of Liger Zero.

Kotobukiya has engineered both boosters with substantial movement, allowing them to be repositioned up, down, left and right.

Fold them into a more restrained configuration or spread them out for an aggressive high-speed attack pose.

Either way, they make Jager instantly recognisable.

Deployable Wings

The equipment mounted across Jager’s back isn’t static.

The rear wings can be deployed, adding another layer of mechanical movement to the CAS equipment.

Combined with the movable boosters, this lets you substantially alter the profile of the finished model.

Closed up, Jager looks streamlined.

Deploy everything and it suddenly looks ready to launch itself across the battlefield at an extremely irresponsible speed.

Deployable Hind-Leg Armour

Kotobukiya has also incorporated movement into the rear-leg armour.

Sections can be opened and deployed as part of Jager’s high-mobility configuration.

It’s a relatively small detail compared with the enormous Ion Boosters, but features like this are exactly what make the HMM version so satisfying to explore after the main construction is complete.

Side Thrusters

The side thrusters can also be deployed, further emphasising Jager’s specialised high-speed role.

With the boosters repositioned, wings opened and thrusters deployed, the entire machine changes character.

Standard Liger Zero looks like a highly capable mechanical lion.

Jager looks like somebody has decided the mechanical lion needs to break the sound barrier.

Strike Laser Claw

One of Liger Zero’s signature attacks is the Strike Laser Claw.

Rather than depending on a conventional handheld weapon, Liger Zero channels energy through its claws and uses its speed to deliver devastating close-range attacks.

Jager’s incredible mobility makes this attack particularly appropriate.

Get airborne.

Boost forward.

Claws out.

Problem solved.

Kotobukiya specifically highlights compatibility with its separately sold Flying Base Neo for recreating the Strike Laser Claw and other dynamic action poses.

Flying Base Neo Compatible

Despite being a four-legged Zoid measuring around 32cm long, Jager doesn’t have to spend its entire life standing flat on the shelf.

The kit is compatible with Kotobukiya’s Flying Base Neo, sold separately.

Getting the machine off the ground makes a huge difference.

Spread the legs.

Deploy the boosters.

Angle the wings.

And suddenly Jager looks like it’s actually launching itself into a high-speed attack.

For this particular CAS configuration, an airborne pose arguably makes more sense than almost anything else.

Approximately 320mm Long

This is a substantial model.

The completed Liger Zero Jager measures approximately 320mm in total length.

That’s 32 centimetres of mechanical lion before you start considering the visual footprint created by those huge movable boosters.

HMM Zoids tend to occupy considerably more shelf space than their height suggests because of their four-legged proportions.

Jager is no exception.

401–600 Parts

Kotobukiya officially places the kit in the 401–600 parts category.

So despite the streamlined appearance of the finished Zoid, the build itself certainly isn’t lightweight.

There’s a substantial amount of construction involved across:

  • Liger Zero’s mechanical body
  • Four articulated legs
  • Head and cockpit
  • Tail
  • CAS armour
  • Large Ion Boosters
  • Thrusters
  • Wings
  • Smaller mechanical components

This is a proper modelling project rather than a quick snap-together kit.

Multi-Colour Construction

Jager’s distinctive navy armour is recreated using multi-coloured moulded plastic, allowing the basic colour scheme to look close to the intended design through straightforward assembly.

You don’t need to completely paint the model to achieve a recognisable Jager.

But with this much surface and mechanical detail available, painters are going to have plenty to work with.

Excellent Customisation Potential

The blue armour works brilliantly against Liger Zero’s white body and darker mechanical structure.

Builders looking to take the model further can add panel lining, metallic internal-frame details, booster heat effects, armour shading, claw detailing, warning markings and weathering around the lower legs.

A clean finish suits the high-performance Jager perfectly, but subtle mechanical weathering can make the finished Zoid look considerably more realistic.

Marking Plus Decals

The current Marking Plus Ver. includes newly designed emblem and caution-mark decals, giving builders the option of adding significantly more technical detailing across the armour.

You can keep things relatively close to the anime appearance or apply more of the markings for the detailed military-machine aesthetic associated with Kotobukiya’s HMM range.

Pilot Figure Included

A pilot figure is included and can be placed inside Liger Zero’s cockpit.

It’s a tiny detail compared with the enormous machine surrounding it, but it helps sell the scale of the completed Zoid.

At 1/72, seeing the pilot sitting inside the head really puts into perspective just how enormous Liger Zero is supposed to be.

Jager vs Schneider vs Panzer

One of the best things about Liger Zero is how dramatically the CAS system changes the same underlying machine.

Jager concentrates on speed and manoeuvrability.

Schneider adds orange armour, multiple Laser Blades and an expandable E-Shield Generator for close combat.

Panzer goes completely the other direction, becoming a green heavy-artillery machine with 22 opening missile hatches and massive Hybrid Cannons.

Same Liger.

Three completely different personalities.

2025 Reproduction

Kotobukiya reproduced the RZ-041 Liger Zero Jager Marking Plus Ver. in August 2025 under product code ZD122R, replacing the previous ZD122 product code.

That reproduction sits alongside a wider return of Liger Zero CAS kits, including Schneider and Panzer reproductions during 2025.

Why Add HMM Liger Zero Jager to Your Collection?

Because Jager is arguably Liger Zero at its sleekest.

Schneider looks like somebody attacked a mechanical lion with an armoury full of swords.

Panzer looks like they replaced subtlety with missiles.

Jager keeps things comparatively simple:

Make Liger Zero ridiculously fast.

The huge Large Ion Boosters, deployable wings, rear-leg armour and side thrusters transform the basic machine without burying the fantastic Liger Zero design underneath excessive weaponry. And Kotobukiya’s HMM engineering gives you enough movement to actually show off what the Jager configuration is supposed to do.

At approximately 320mm long with up to 600 parts, it’s also a substantial modelling project with plenty of opportunities for additional detailing.

For ZOIDS fans, Liger Zero collectors or experienced model builders working towards the complete CAS lineup, the RZ-041 Liger Zero Jager deserves a place alongside Schneider and Panzer.

Navy armour. Wings deployed. Ion Boosters wide open. Strike Laser Claw ready. HMM Liger Zero Jager takes a 32cm mechanical lion and answers one very important question: what happens if we make it much, much faster?
